Although the Wranglers are not in the NorPac Pacific Division Playoffs doesn't mean that we can't get involved in playoff fever. Last night I went and watched the Puget Sound Tomahawks and the Seattle Totems play game #1. I was treated to a great game. Unfortunately for me, I was rooting for the T-Hawks because former Wrangler Grant Long was playing for the T-Hawks. The T-Hawks lost in overtime 4-5 to the Totems.
The 1st period was all T-Hawks. Going up 2-0 on the Totems. Zac Reneau the T-Hawks goalie was stopping all 15 1st period Totems shots. Seeing that the T-Hawks goalie was single-handedly beating the Totems, the Totems started their dirty tricks getting at Reneau. At the end of the period, at the start of intermission you had the "little prince Shulze" trying to mix it up with Reneau. Then Carpenter charged Reneau, tackling him and knocking his helmet off. He was ejected. Seattle scored, then the T-Hawks answered. Then again, the Totes scored, and almost immediately the T-Hawks answered back. The game was starting to look ugly. Lots of cheap shots were being delivered as each team trying to let each other know who was the boss. Unfortunately the 3rd period was all Totems as they scored 3 times to tie up the score and send it into overtime. In overtime former Wrangler Grant Long got a lot of ice time doing every other shift on defense. Grant had a great game. Way to go Grant. Unfortunately, after 10 minutes of overtime, Seattle scored and that was it. Ugh. I had to watch the apes celebrate.
The T-Hawks played a great two periods of hockey, but in the 3rd period you could tell they were starting to lose gas. They only played two lines on offense and two lines on defense. You can only do that so long before the lactic acid builds up and the muscles begin to burn. Seattle varied the players and continued to mix it up. Eventually that was the winning formula against the T-Hawks. Oh well. Maybe they can win tonight.
I didn't get to watch the Jags and the Gens play last night, but would have liked to watch it. Anytime the favored team loses is worth it. Way to go Jags beating the "dirty birds" 7-4. I think I'll watch game #2 tonight. I'm rooting for the underdogs - the Jags and the T-Hawks. Wouldn't that be grand to watch the Jags and the T-Hawks in the Pacific Division playoffs!
